How a program cost is actually built

Four components sit behind a single price on a landing page, and they behave differently over a year. This note takes them one at a time and shows what the record does with each.

01

The recurring charge

The amount taken at each billing event, with its own cadence attached. It is never inferred from the supply period, because a ninety-day supply can be billed monthly and a twenty-eight-day supply is not a month.

02

The membership

A number, an explicit zero, or a blank. When a program folds the membership into the plan price it is labeled included and never added a second time. When no page confirms one, it stays blank rather than becoming zero.

03

Required fees

Bucketed into confirmed, unresolved and optional. A confirmed fee with an amount and a cadence is counted. An unpriced required fee withholds the all-in figure. An optional fee never enters it.

04

The consult

Sits outside the recurring charge wherever a provider charges one. Alloy's one-time $49.95 consultation is counted in the first payment and never in the monthly figure, because spreading a single charge across every month would overstate the months after it.

Worked through with three records

The same arithmetic applied to three different billing shapes. Each figure below is derived from a charge as billed, and none of them is a monthly price the program quotes.

One plan price, one medicine

Hers

Oral estradiol
$79.00 per month on a 12-month plan
Estradiol patch with progesterone
$134.00 per month on a 12-month plan
Derived monthly
≈ $79.00/mo derived

A single monthly charge described as including the medication, on a 12-month plan. The oral path names progesterone alongside estradiol, but the tier is not itemised, so the combined patch plan is carried as its own offer at $134.

A consultation outside the charge

Alloy

Estradiol patch with progesterone
$224.97 per 12-week supply, billed quarterly
Derived monthly
≈ $81.52/mo derived

The patch ships quarterly at $224.97 for a 12-week supply, with progesterone included, which derives to $81.52 a month rather than $74.99. A $49.95 consultation is charged once with the first order, so the first payment is larger than every payment after it.

A membership with no medication price

Evernow

Menopause HRT
$49.00 per month, membership only
Derived monthly
≈ $49.00/mo derived · known charges only

A $49 month-to-month membership, with the medication billed at a pharmacy and never priced by the provider. The all-in figure is withheld rather than reported as the membership alone.
